Volunteer doctors from Tripoli Eye Hospital visited the refugees from the city of Tawergha who are currently residing in the Janzour Naval Academy.
This volunteer work, which was announced mid of last October, was suggested by the Free Libya Organization.
The visit was hugely welcomed and accepted by both the administrators of the naval academy and the refugees.
The visit lasted for five days. During the visit the doctors examined more than one hundred cases which included:
1) Two cases of mature cataract. The patients were referred to the hospital and were operated upon two weeks ago. The operations were successful and the patients were found to be in good health when seen during their follow up appointments.
2) Two chalazion cases which will be operated upon next Saturday.
3) Discovery of two previously undiagnosed cases of glaucoma which were examined and given proper treatment. They were also given proper follow up throughout the days of the visit. They were then referred to Tripoli Eye Hospital for their visual fields to be examined and to continue with their follow up.
4) The examination of numerous cases of immature cataract and their referral to Tripoli Eye Hospital for follow-up.
5) Complete examination of numerous refractive error cases. The patients were advised of their need for eye glasses and then referred to the hospital for follow-up.
6) Examination and treatment of numerous cases of bacterial and viral conjunctivitis, blepharitis and trachoma.
